Summary
Up until now, I've been supporting my game on only Windows. However, I have had a lot of people asking me for a Linux version so that they can help test the game. Since I'm trying to get a good amount of testers, I decided it was time to push forward a Linux version. Since MV natively supports Linux distribution, I figured it shouldn't be too much of an issue. When I tested the game on my distro, Linux Mint Cinnamon, everything worked exactly as expected. The only issue is that the text renders a little differently but that's not a big deal. However, my 3 testers have had a couple of issues that I cannot figure out what the cause for is. If someone is able to help me with this that would be amazing, and I can even provide my game's (unencrypted) folder if that would help. I'm just not as familiar with Linux and with so many different distros out there, I'm wondering if there are some incompatibility issues that could be rectified by updating certain files or things like that.
User A is on KDE Neon.
User B is on Arch Linux.
User C is on Steam Deck.
Issue 1: User A and C have a problem with the D-Pad not working on their controllers. Obviously the Steam Deck is using the integrated controller, but I am not sure what User A is using. User B is using a keyboard. I have tested my DualShock 4 on both Windows and Linux Mint and the D-Pad works perfectly with or without Steam Input.
Issue 2: User B and C have an issue with the screen filters not working. I am using Hakuen Studio Game Filter, and the 5.0.1 version that works with RPG Maker MV. It relies on pixi-filters. It works for me without issue on Windows and Mint, but for user B and C the filters simply do not show up. I have asked User A about it and haven't yet received a response. I've asked Hakuen if they know what the issue is, and unfortunately they do not. Updating pixi-filters did not work either. Using Proton on the Windows version does replicate the filters for both users, but in the past I had another user report other issues with Proton and would rather have a native port if possible!
As far as I know, all Windows testers have not had either of these issues. The only thing related to controllers that ever came up was that hotplugging is unsupported.
These are the two main issues I'm facing right now. I'd like to maybe get some other testers that use Mint to see if they have these issues or not, or even other testers for KDE/Arch/Steam Deck to play around with it, especially if they have developer knowledge. If you have seen these issues before and know of any workarounds or are willing to take a look at it to see what might be the issue, I'd be very grateful.
I know there are a few methods of porting MV games over to Linux without using whatever MV does as its default option, too. If anyone has experience with these and knows if they might just do it better, that would be great news too.
