Hi! :LZScheeze: (I'm hoping I'm posting this on the proper place also apologies if there's more threads answering these specific questions... I did try to find it using the search tool, but didn't find it and honestly I didn't went through the 1183 pages of threads).

The issue :LZSsad:
Usually, when I downloaded game demos here, I'd open them and see them normally inside RPG MV, so I could check how ppl did some things. However, with this demo I'm wondering why I'm getting this (and how to get to see it proper):

(can't see animations...)

(enemies doesn't show either...)

(sounds and music are not playing...)

Some details :LZSblush:
Don't know if the following details might help someone to kindly give me a thorough explanation:
  • I play the demo without problems (could see graphics, hear sound, all fine while playing it) when launching it from the game exe file in the folder (''outside'' the MV program, so to speak).

  • However, when I try to play it from ''inside'' the MV engine, I'm getting this:

  • I've also got a "SyntaxError Unexpected token" (?!) message when trying to play the demo from within MV:

  • When I clicked on the little game icon below, corresponding to this black window, this appeared:

So i seems the demo I downloaded is packaged as a standalone application using a "NW.js" framework thingy, but I don't understand it; I right-click on the demo's game icon to see type of file and it says "type of file: app (.exe) description: nwjs". Why doesn't it work with this demo, but other demos I can open normally?

  • Also got another message (alas didn't get a screenshot) but it was along the lines of "profile cannot be used because it comes from a more updated version of NW.js. Some functions may not be available. Specify a different profile directory or use a more updated version of NW.js." I don't understand if that message is telling me that the version of NW.js used by the demo is newer than the version installed on my computer, but why does it matter? how do I update or make it match? I don't know if that NW.js. thing could cause some compatibility issues or prevent some features from working properly for me. Don't know how to update my version of NW.js to the same version used by the demo, or how to "use a different profile directory" as suggested in the message.

  • The demo is being made in RPG Maker MZ, which I don't own. I have MV (don't know if that's the cause, and if it is indeed the cause, I'd like to know more about compatibility and how to open MZ and see projects in MV).

  • The demo is using the "RPG Maker MV - 8bit Retro Graphic Materials All-in-One Pack" DLC, which I don't own (but I thought that, the assets being in the demo folders, and showing normally while playing the demo, I could also visualize them inside the MV engine as usual... why are assets not showing and sounds / bgm not working?).
also, if anyone would gift me this DLC retro pack with a Steam Key I'd be most grateful, I'm too poor to ever buy it... :LZSteary:

  • I tried to double-check that I imported all the necessary image files from the demo's image folder, and tried to make sure that the image files were in the correct format and in the correct folder in my RPG Maker MV, but found weird file extensions:
    • In other projects image files are usually ".png" and I can visualize them normally, but the image files in this project have the extension ".png_". I thought this was odd, 'cause my system couldn't recognize this.
    • In other projects sound files are normally ".ogg" and I can listen normally while inside the MV program, but the sound files in this project have the extension ".ogg_" which my system also doesn't recognize as normal.
    • I don't knoe if it's possible that the underscore at the end of the file extensions is causing the issue and that's the reason RPG Maker MV might not recognize it as a valid image file format. So I tried removing the underscore from the file extensions to see if that'd resolve the issue, but perhaps it's even worse. The WinRAR which contained the demo also showed this weird extensions in the original folders, so I tried to painstakingly change the odd file extensions by deleting the underscore, but didn't work:

  • Are the file formats modified by the MZ/MV exporting process, or modified in some way by the dev, and that's why it's not working when I try to change the file extension manually? Or is this always the case / normal procedure when exporting a demo? in which case, how to revert it so I can see the project displayed normally?

Thanks to anyone that might see this and willing to help with thorough explanations and tutorials (it can be so frustrating when you can't open a game or demo directly in RPG Maker MV, especially if you're trying to learn from it).
