Summary
now I've been pondering for a while weather or not it was a good idea to buy rpgmaker mv and have my first game be made on it. for the longest time i've had this idea for a game that is somewhat similar to skyrim. (even though i was mostly inspired by cube world.) that game was going to be made in UE4 while the first game was going to be made in MV. i wanted to give it the feel of a retro game being brought into a modern...

the first game is going to be a classic rpg like final fantasy but the sequel is going to be an action rpg like legend of zelda. its still gonna have (almost) all the characters and locations as the first game. I'm just worried that everyone will bash it for being "nothing like the original". i wanted to do rpg maker because its much easier to make a game from it unlike unreal engine 4. the whole rpg system is there and all you have to do is make your game. i was gonna change the art style because the default art style is trash. (have you SEEN the hair color options? that is not red, that's pinkish brown.) but i don't have photoshop. all i have is gimp, and gimp... lets just say its not, beginner friendly. also, I'm quite terrible at drawing so its gonna be a challenge drawing all the battle sprites and tile sets. the style I'm gonna go for is mid 2000s anime type style. (you know, back when anime was good.)
but enough about the art style, the REAL problem here is the gameplay. i had an idea where i could do one of those action rpgs like this one i found galled eternal senia where instead of fighting enemies in a regular rpg style, you actually attack in real time. also, i wouldn't have to bother drawing the battle sprites if i make the game in that style of gameplay. but i already know how hard its gonna be to code everything. especially since almost every playable character has a different weapon. and also since the party members would act on their own, now back to describing my second game. instead of you playing as one of the 3 main characters that i talked about in my previous post, you actually play as a character that you can create and customize. you get to chose their race as well as their class. i was gonna start with like 10 or so classes and ad more later on. you also get more people to switch to like in lost saga. so instead of having to create different save files to play as different classes, you can unlock those other classes and they join into you. (it'll be explained in the actual game)
like i said earlier, it was gonna be an open worldish action rpg like skyrim or the 3d zelda games. the characters from the previous game help you along the way. there will be times where the focus is put on those characters just like the first game. the reason i didn't start with the UE4 game first is because i have no 3D modeling software to create all the models with. and also no way to make custom textures because i have no idea how people even make custom textures. and the music i made for the first game will be different. speaking of music, i should ask about that in a different post. i may not be wording all of this correctly, and i may be kinda not getting my point across, but basically here's the issue: the first and second games will NOT be similar game play wise, however the style, characters, locations, and humor will all be the same. all help is appreciated. and again, sorry if my post is too confusing or if i didn't get my point across. it's kinda hard to explain without any examples.
here are some picture so somewhat better explain: (note that these aren't exactly what the games will look like)
