Summary

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows about how to program stairs that cause a character to move diagonally downwards when the player inputs a single keyboard command in VX Ace. For instance, if I had a staircase leading down to the right, I would want to press the right arrow or 'D' key and have the character proceed in a downward right motion, even though I'm only pressing the rightward motion key. I'd also like to know if it's possible to combine these mechanics with a 'pixel movement' system,...

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows about how to program stairs that cause a character to move diagonally downwards when the player inputs a single keyboard command in VX Ace.


For instance, if I had a staircase leading down to the right, I would want to press the right arrow or 'D' key and have the character proceed in a downward right motion, even though I'm only pressing the rightward motion key. I'd also like to know if it's possible to combine these mechanics with a 'pixel movement' system, where the character isn't restricted to grid movement. In short, I'd like a staircase similar to the one from Earthbound pictured below.
