Summary

Hi, Many of you are familiar with the VX Ace Master List, which is a giant list of scripts that you can add to your VXA games. I thought a lot about the master list. While it's a great resource overall, I feel it has some drawbacks: It's not easy to search it. Even if you know what you want (eg. time of day colour tinting), it's hard to find it.

Hi,

Many of you are familiar with the VX Ace Master List, which is a giant list of scripts that you can add to your VXA games.

I thought a lot about the master list. While it's a great resource overall, I feel it has some drawbacks:

  1. It's not easy to search it. Even if you know what you want (eg. time of day colour tinting), it's hard to find it.
  2. It suffers from link rot -- websites go down or move, and scripts get lost.
  3. It only includes scripts; not resources (graphics, etc.) -- look at lots of Grandma Deb's lists, which have broken links
Together, I put together a quick "master list 2.0" demo. Although the content is sparse (and from VXA, not MV), I think it's a step forward in the right direction. It tries to solve the problems above:

  1. It has search built-in, and it's intended to be used with quite verbose descriptions of functionality
  2. All content is hosted on GitHub, which is unlikely to go offline or suffer downtime. It includes cached copies of everything -- they may not be the latest versions, but they're always available.
  3. It scripts and resources (currently, just images -- you can switch what you're searching for by using the top two links).
It also has a couple of added features, like indicating if you can use the item for commercial products, and it's pure client-side (doesn't depend on any server). I intend this to be a community project, instead of something maintained by a small number of staff people. Being on GitHub helps with collaboration.

What do you think? Is this worth trying out with MV? Are there any major problems you see with this?
