Lately i have been thinking of making a chill game with emphasis on interacting with npc, events, day night cicle, etc. i was thinking on going back to rpg maker for its robust event system, but the issue is my idea is to make it a sidescroller, maybe with some platformer elements like Night in the Woods (Just Being able to Jumb around really). i was thinking on going back to rpg maker for its robust event system, but the issue is my idea is to make it a sidescroller, maybe with some platformer elements like Night in the Woods (Just Being able to Jumb around really).
I saw this video which looks quite nice actually, but it's done on MV, i'm not really familiar with MV tho, most of the plugins i like are on MZ, although im willing to give it a shot.
I saw an example of a platformer made on rpg maker on itch.io https://thundgames.itch.io/quisk
I tried it, but the movement feels off, moving left to right feels kind of laggy, the jumping also feels quite a bit off.
There's something about being able to control the jump height by keeping the button pressed one takes for granted till you feel its absence.
So i wanted to ask more experienced people, is this kind of a stretch? my ideal would be to have it 2.5D using pixel art, i know Ultra Mode 7 exists and even MZ3D, but i kind of have abandoned that idea for the sake of just having tight side scroller movement.
Any opinions and insight?
